Claim Testimonial: Janet Wasike – One Acre Fund

Janet Wasike, One Acre Fund logo

Janet Wasike (pictured) is a hardworking lady, aged 34 years, and a farmer at Bumula in Bungoma County, Kenya. She is a mother to five beautiful children and she enjoys singing in church.

Janet joined One Acre Fund (OAF) in 2014 after learning about them from friends. She is a group chairlady of a group known as Lima Group under OAF farmer’s programme. Normally with OAF, Janet, together with other farmers, get farm inputs from OAF and repay later in instalments. As an added benefit, all farmers have an opportunity to enjoy funeral insurance inclusive to the programme. Being a loyal customer, in 2017 Janet introduced her father, Mr. Joel Nyongesa, to the programme and they lived a happy life as farmers and One Acre Fund customers. Janet’s father was a committed farmer, who planted maize and vegetables in his farm as well as keeping cattle.

In November 2021, Joel fell sick and as he sought for treatment, he succumbed to the illness and passed on 29th November 2021. This was a big blow to Janet—the only daughter that Joel had. Being aware of OAF funeral insurance, Janet reported the matter to her Field officer who helped her file a claim with MIC Global; in a period of few days, her father’s funeral benefit of Kshs, 20,000 was paid to her mobile wallet account. Janet had never benefited from insurance before and she was excited to receive the funeral insurance benefit.

“I am grateful that my father’s funeral insurance was paid. This was a great help to me and my family and I was able to take my young brother to a high school using the benefit and also bought more seeds. My group members and villagers here at Bumula were excited to learn of my benefit and we recommend One Acre Fund to continue with the programme.”
